From Coach Blade: Season Schedule Changes

Tuesday, September 29, 2020

Dear Indy Family,

Unfortunately we will have to make schedule changes for the remainder of the year. Today we found out that varsity starters and a number of JV players have been quarantined due to Covid exposure and contact tracing.  The school as a whole will be going to remote learning for the remainder of the week due to rising case numbers on campus.  We will be unable to play this Friday at Brentwood and are looking to reschedule that game. The final JV and Freshman game scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5th will also be cancelled, and finally, Thursday Oct 8th versus Ensworth, will be cancelled and not rescheduled.

We will not be practicing for the remainder of the week.  Practice will resume Monday Oct 5th, with the JV and Varsity at normal times.  There will be no practice on Oct 8th or 9th for Fall Break.  Monday, October 12th, practice will resume at 3:00 as we prepare for our Home game against Dickson County.

As you know, this season of life has been very difficult on everyone. We are blessed that each level of the program has played 5 games.  We are hopeful and confident we will finish the season we started.  Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as these decisions are out of our control both at the coaching and administrative levels.

Respectfully,

Scott Blade

From Coach Blade: Updated COVID-19 Protocols

Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Dear Independence Football Family,

As many of you heard yesterday, Gov. Lee will be signing Executive Order 55 which allows for contact sports to resume as originally planned with a start date of Aug 21st. That means, Monday we will begin preseason practice. If your son has not turned in the first page of his physical and completed Final Forms, please do so before Monday. Also on Final Forms is a place for you to pay your athletic fee of $75.

I completely understand if you are not comfortable sending your son to play football this season. We will do our best to mitigate the spread of germs, but please understand this has been and will continue to be very difficult. With that being said, I need to know if you are opting out of the season. Unless I hear from you, I will assume that the people in attendance on Monday are those who have decided to keep playing. We have limited locker space and more people than Varsity Jerseys (97). I need to know who is planning on playing so we can make appropriate practice plans, locker room and game day preparations.

The link below is the latest from the WCS. Our best chance of playing through a complete season continues to be making good decisions with regard to social distancing, masks in public, washing of hands, and washing of cloth used for practice.

*New Practice Schedule as of August 3rd:
Mon-Fri 3-6 pm (Varsity)
Mon-Fri 4-6 pm (Freshmen)

Go Eagles!

From Brandi Magrum: ImPACT test Directions/Instructions

Wednesday, July 29, 2020

ImPACT tests:

We will be doing ImPACT testing at home this year with all the social distancing and cleaning requirements. Below are the directions/instructions for Football and Girls’ Soccer to complete this at home. I have highlighted below who needs to complete the ImPACT test. Please be sure to have them complete this before your first play day/scrimmage for volleyball and for cheerleading please have them complete this by Aug 5.

We will test incoming freshmen, rising juniors, anyone new to our programs that did not go here last year or didn’t play a sport here last year, or anyone who suffered a concussion since their last baseline test.

Thank you so much!

From Brandi Magrum: Additional Info for Families

Tuesday, July 7, 2020

Hello, Indy Football Families!

Please completely fill out Final forms and sign as parent/guardian and then have your child sign as well as making sure they have turned in their physical (only need the form signed by physician-make sure it is signed and dated April 15, 2020 or more recent) that will be valid for the entire school year. Even the previous students need to have their updated ones by August 1, 2020. Also if your student is a transfer/new student, their school email may not be activated yet but you as the parent/guardian should be able to do their part!

Thank you so much!

From Coach Blade: Football Practice Schedule/Changes (updated)

Sunday, July 5, 2020

Dear Indy Football family,

I hope everyone had a good break. As you may have heard, the TSSAA has moved back the official start of the season until Sep 18. There will be changes to our schedule. The TSSAA will notify us when those changes are finalized.

That being said, we will begin preparations tomorrow at 4:00. Check in for varsity is still at 3:30, freshmen will continue their check in at 5:30. We will keep in to 3 workouts a week at this time: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Here’s a few more reminders:

  1. Please hydrate before, during and after practice. Bring your own water. Be sure to eat throughout the day.
  2. Please get physicals done and bring me the first page. Submit everything else on Final Forms.
  3. Bring both tennis shoes and cleats as well as a mask everyday to practice. We will have indoor meetings as well as practice/condition in the gym on inclement weather days.
  4. Finally, please let me know if your son has tested positive for Covid-19. There is a process for return to workouts we need to follow to protect your son and the rest of the team.

Thank you all for your patience at this time. I believe we will play football this year.

Go Eagles!

From Coach Blade: Dead Period and July Practice Schedule

Monday, June 22, 2020

Dear Indy football family,

We are now in the dead period. There is no practice until July 6. When we return, we will practice at same time but will go Monday-Thursday the first two weeks back. The week of July 20, we will go Monday- Wednesday. That will be the last break before the season. Beginning the following week of July 27, we will practice Monday-Friday.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with screening the past 3 weeks. Thank you to all the parents who let us work with your kids during this time.

I strongly recommend that the boys continue to condition and prepare their minds and bodies for when we return.

For those who have not got their physical and final forms completed, please do so over the next two weeks.

Enjoy the time off!

Coach Blade
