From Coach Blade: Football Practice Schedule/Changes

Sunday, July 5, 2020

Dear Indy Football family,

I hope everyone had a good break. As you may have heard, the TSSAA has moved back the official start of the season until Sep 18. There will be changes to our schedule. The TSSAA will notify us when those changes are finalized.

That being said, we will begin preparations tomorrow at 4:00. Check in for varsity is still at 3:30, freshmen will continue their check in at 5:30. We will keep in to 3 workouts a week at this time, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here’s a few more reminders:

  1. Please hydrate before, during and after practice. Bring your own water. Be sure to eat throughout the day.
  2. Please get physicals done and bring me the first page. Submit everything else on Final Forms.
  3. Bring both tennis shoes and cleats as well as a mask everyday to practice. We will have indoor meetings as well as practice/condition in the gym on inclement weather days.
  4. Finally, please let me know if your son has tested positive for Covid-19. There is a process for return to workouts we need to follow to protect your son and the rest of the team.

Thank you all for your patience at this time. I believe we will play football this year.

Go Eagles!

From Coach Blade: Dead Period and July Practice Schedule

Monday, June 22, 2020

Dear Indy football family,

We are now in the dead period. There is no practice until July 6. When we return, we will practice at same time but will go Monday-Thursday the first two weeks back. The week of July 20, we will go Monday- Wednesday. That will be the last break before the season. Beginning the following week of July 27, we will practice Monday-Friday.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with screening the past 3 weeks. Thank you to all the parents who let us work with your kids during this time.

I strongly recommend that the boys continue to condition and prepare their minds and bodies for when we return.

For those who have not got their physical and final forms completed, please do so over the next two weeks.

Enjoy the time off!

From Coach Blade: Regarding June 1 Practice

Tuesday, May 26, 2020

Good morning,

I hope this email finds everyone in good health. As you are aware, we will resume team workouts on June 1st.  The month of June will look different than years past.  I will try and make the changes as easy to understand as possible.

  1. First, JV/Varsity will start at 4 and end by 6, and Incoming freshmen will be 6-7. All players should report to their scheduled time 30 minutes early. All players will be report to an assigned table, meet at stadium entrance where they will be recorded as present, temperature taken and asked the 6 following questions:
    • Have you been in close contact with a person with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19?
    • Have you had unusual cough or shortness of breath?
    • Have you had a sore throat or other flu-like symptoms?
    • Have you had a fever of 100.0 degrees or greater in the past 72 hours?
    • Have you had new loss of taste or smell?
    • Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?

*Players with over 100.00 degree temperature or answer yes or refuse to be screened, will be sent home. The student will not be cleared to return until cleared according to CDC guidelines.

  2. The locker room and weight room will be off limits. Unless we have inclimate weather, we will not be using those areas. We will try and do everything outside. In the event we have bad weather, we will use those areas. Masks should be worn while we work inside where spacing is less than 6 feet. (Ex. is spotting someone in weightroom) . Every player must provide their own mask and bring it every day in the event we need to move into more confined spaces.
  3. Every player needs to bring their own water. I recommend bringing a gallon of water, and put your name on it.  Brandi and her trainers will not be with us until July 6th when we return from dead period.
  4. Please bring cleats and tennis shoes every day as well as dressed in Indy FB gear. Incoming freshmen will be able to buy some workout gear the first day for $30/set. (1 shirt, 1 pair of shorts)
  5. Coaches will divide groups into 9 players per group, 6 feet apart.  Groups will net be within 10 feet of each other.  Our goal during June, is to get back into some sort of football shape and begin installing schemes.
  6. If you do not feel comfortable with the restrictions outlined, your son will not be penalized for missing.

Two more items to consider: Sport physicals have been extended to the first day of school. If you had a physical last season, it is good until we start back school. I recommend getting to work on that asap.  Also, the school sports fee has gone up to $75.  That will be due before first game.

Lastly, I will be doing another podcast on this Friday with Dash 2 sports at 9 am. You can listen at

Cliff notes: Arrive 30 min early, have all equipment needed with you, bring your own water and mask. Stay home if not comfortable or answering yes to any of the questions, or if temp exceeds 100.00.

Hope this helps!

From Coach Blade: Football Update

Friday, May 8, 2020

Dear Indy Football Family,

I hope this email finds everyone healthy and safe.  We all have a lot of questions moving forward so I will attempt to pass on what I know at this point.

  1. We are targeting June 1st as our start back date. THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
  2. When we return, there will be restrictions.  These restrictions include but are not limited to the following:
    1. No more than 10 in a group at a time
    2. Continue 6 ft apart social distancing
    3. Face masks when working indoors
    4. wiping down equipment after every use
    5. we most likely will not use the locker room during June and just have kids show up before their designated time and leave once workout completed.
    6. Hopefully things go back to “normal” when we return after dead period.
    7. As of now, the TSSAA still has not changed dead period or start of season. Dead Period is scheduled June 20-July5.
  3. We will have a date in the next couple of weeks where kids may stop by and pick up remaining items in their lockers to be taken home and cleaned.
  4. I will also try and pick up webstore orders from Matthews Team Sports by then so kids can pick those up as well.
  5. For the incoming freshmen, we will try and work out a time for a zoom informational meeting as we get closer to June.

From Coach Blade: Update

Monday, April 27, 2020

Good morning,

I wanted to try and send a note updating everyone. The TSSAA sent out a memo last week to all coaches.   What we do know is that the summer schedule has not been altered as of yet.  The dead period time remains the same as always at this point. The last week of June and first week of July is the dead period.  The start of the season has yet to be changed.  There has been news in the NCAA and NFL about pushing back the start of the season but as of now the start of the season has not been changed.  The bad news…we have no official word on when we can begin practicing or meeting as a team again.

Every athlete is under the same uncertain situation right now.  My recommendation is to keep finding a way to get your workouts in. There are numerous at home, body weight, type of exercises you can be doing.  Most importantly, stay safe and healthy!  This is an unprecedented time in all our lives but we will get through it.  If you know of any one that is not getting emails, have them email me at  so we can get them added to the contact list.  If you have nay questions, feel free to email me as well.

Go Eagles!
